Both of Oxford’s bowling teams put more W’s in the books this week against Clarkston and Troy Athens. Neither team were any match for the Wildcats.
On Dec. 15, Clarkston came to Oxford with the hopes of winning. But, the Wildcats defeated both Clarkston teams 19-11.
In the ladies’ game, junior Megan Armbruster bowled exceptionally in the baker rounds to pull the Wildcats out of an early deficit with a 259 game. Later in the match, senior Claire Sandstrom led the team with a 203 game. She was followed by senior Savanna Barnes with a 195 game and Armbruster with a 190 game.
“The girls really showed toughness… We are making some mistakes but are overcoming them so far. We need to get better, and we will,” Head Coach JR Lafnear said.
In the boys’ game, they took the lead early on and never looked back. Junior Zach Barrows led the Wildcats early on with a 223 game. Other key bowlers were junior Justin Sisson with a 214 game and junior Justin Powell with a 202 game.
Earlier in the week on Dec. 13, both the boy and the girls overcame Troy Athens.
In the girls’ game, the Wildcats destroyed Athens 29-1. The ladies were led by Armbruster, who bowled games of 194 and 202. Sophomore Grace Meyer was also an essential player in the victory with a 199 game.
The boys beat Athens 27-3. Junior Luke Acton led the Wildcats with a 455 series, followed closely by Sisson with a 453 series. Two other key players in the win were Barrows, who bowled a 227 game and sophomore Collin Massie, who bowled a 204 game.
The boys and the girls both hold 3-0 records and are in the No. 1 spot in the OAA Red after this week’s play. Both teams will be back on the lanes at home on Dec. 20 competing against Troy.
