The Cats are trying to go the distance this season, and the boys’ basketball team let the competition know they aren’t messing around last week.
In their first week, Oxford took wins over Walled Lake Central and Avondale.
On Nov. 27, senior forward Michael Raisch led the Cats with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the team’s 57-40 victory over Walled Lake. Junior forward Trey Townsend put up 13 points.
But, it was Friday’s game that meant the most for the boys. In a 48-44 victory on Nov. 30, the Cats overcame Avondale for the first time since the team joined the OAA. Townsend led the boys with 12 points and senior forward Connor Nicholson put 11 on the board.
Head Coach Steve Laidlaw was particularly impressed with senior guard Nolan Hiler, who hit a 3-pointer in the games’ final two minutes, giving his teammates a fair six-point lead while they defended their hoop from a team that has beaten them time and time again.
Now touting a 2-0 record, the Cats will be back on the court on Dec. 11 against Waterford Kettering at home after taing on Rochester Adams Dec. 4.
