The temperatures cooled down this past Saturday and clouds floated above the skies of Oxford as the Veterans Ministry at LakePoint Community Church hosted their annual Veteran’s BBQ & Picnic.
“This is our 15th year,” organizer Bob ten Bosch, who served during Vietnam in the United States Navy said. “This is the first year we’ve done it inside, because it might rain.”
Over 300 veterans registered for the event – some even homeless from as far away as Detroit, who made the trip to Oxford Township via charter buses. The event included lots of food, games, door prizes, line dancing, music and vintage Model A Ford vehicles.
“The most rewarding part for me is making a veteran feel good for a day, especially the guys that are in homeless shelters. They’re dear to our hearts,” ten Bosch said. — Don Rush
