Board approves OVA expansion

Oxford Virtual Academy, better known as OVA, is getting an “expansion” in its office space in the coming weeks. At its Feb. 12 meeting, the Oxford Board of Education approved spending $314,000 for the renovation of OVA’s office at 162 S. Washington St. It was a 7-0 vote.

Though the word “expansion” was used in the meeting, the project is in reference to OVA’s physical office space. It does not mean the virtual academy is expanding its online services.

The project will be done by JCS Construction, which was the lowest of five bidders. The district will serve as the project’s general contractor.

Though the district has never worked with JCS Construction before, Director of Maintenance Tony Sarkins said the company comes “highly recommended” and specializes in these kinds of renovations.

“This work is right in their wheelhouse,” he said.

The board of education is scheduled to meet again on Feb. 26 at Oxford High School. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m.
