Varsity soccer improved its record this week as the team prepares for district play.
Though the team dropped a match that cost the OAA white division title, the team was able to conquer Waterford Kettering in Captain country.
Oxford took the away game against Waterford Kettering 2-1, with sophomores forward Zachary Townsend and midfielder Rory Vince netting the two goals.
A couple nights earlier on Oct. 2, Oxford dropped a close game against Groves 2-1, which cemented Groves as the OAA white division champion. Oxford’s lone goal was scored by senior forward Michael Gonzalez, giving the Wildcats the lead early in the game. Unfortunately for Oxford, Groves answered with its two consecutive goals later in the match.
Though the game resulted in a loss for Oxford, Thaler said he thought the match was a “great game” that required fierce play from his boys.
This week moves the Wildcats to 9-5-2 overall. After playing a game at home on Oct. 9 against Fenton, the boys will hit the blue turf again on Oct. 11 against Ferndale.
