It seems beating up Dragons has become Oxford’s hobby this year.
First, the football team stomped rival Lake Orion 28-7 on Aug. 31. Then, the Wildcat soccer team piled on by slaying the Dragons 1-0 in the squad’s Sept. 4 home opener.
To score the deciding goal, forward Zachary Townsend passed to midfielder Christopher Escalante who, according to Head Coach John Thaler, “calmly” sent the ball to the back of the net.
With tensions high near the end of the game, goalkeeper Tristan Bennett made an important save and secured the win for Oxford.
On the road against former league rivals on Sept. 6, the Fenton Tigers, Oxford dropped the match after a close back and forth game 2-1. Forward Nicholas Morawski scored the team’s lone goal.
The Wildcat booters are 1-0-2 in Oakland Activities Association (OAA) White Division and 5-2-2 overall.
Oxford soccer will be back at it on Sept. 13 at Romeo.
