Last year, the boys’ ski team performed admirably and had a few faces show up at the state championships. They’re hoping for a repeat this winter.
“We had a pretty good season last year with the boys all around,” said Seth Thompson, head coach of the Oxford-Holly joint team. “So I think with the addition of a couple of new skiers, I think we should be able to have a pretty strong season.”
The boys are back on Mount Holly practicing and shaking the dust of their skis. Thompson is having the boys get in as many trips down the slopes as possible before their first competition next month.
“We’re just getting laps in,” Thompson said. “You know, the more time you spend on the skis, you eventually start to progress no matter what.”
The team is still waiting to pick its captains, but junior Holly students Jack Ford and Connor Ford are expected to be two of the team’s standout athletes. Connor competed at the state finals last year.
Before they hit the slopes for the first time on Jan. 16 against Flushing, they’ll spend practices being full of anticipation.
“We’re just looking to have a solid season at Mount Holly and hopefully carry it into the post season,” Thompson said of both the boys and the girls.
