The Wildcats started off the week with a tough league loss of 11-5 to Rochester Adams, but by Friday night Oxford may have found its spring stride after dropping West Bloomfield at home 15-2 in Oakland Activities Association action.
Oxford led wire to wire and topped the Lakers in all statistical categories and hopefully found some of the pre-season magic that has eluded the Wildcats for several weeks.
‘I won’t go into detail, but that’s the first game we’ve played from the opening whistle until the final gun,? said Oxford Head Coach Greg Normand. ‘You really couldn’t ask for more tonight from this team. We have three starters missing from our lineup because of school commitments, West Bloomfield has a winning record and I think that’s the best game of the season. I am really proud of this team tonight, but that said, we still have to find a way to get every day until the season is over. And that’s a challenge.?
Oxford was led Friday night offensively by Noah Grove’s five goals and one assist. Scott Randall contributed two goals and four assists, while Garrett Muscott contributed two goals and an assist. Austin Kreshock played his usually tough game contributing two goals and four assists for the win. Ryan Kimbrough, Nathan Tilley and Gavin Fritz score goals for the winners.
Wildcat goalies, Jared Tasch and Alex Waslowsky combined for the win giving up only two goals. Defensively, Owen Bachusz and Mitchell Scott led the team in ground balls, which edged the Lakers 30-19.
The win moves Oxford’s record to 7-2 and the Wildcats are on the road next Tuesday at Lansing Waverly, then Thursday at Royal Oak before entertaining Sterling Heights next Saturday. ? Submitted to Oxford Leader
