Before they had to be back in the classroom, Oxford High’s varsity boys’ tennis team got the season off to a good start with a first place finish at the Lapeer Quad Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 17. The tournament took place against Lapeer High School and Davison High School and was held in Lapeer.
Oxford took home first place accolades in four flights. Lauren Opalewski grabbed first in 1 Singles and Hayden Durant earned first in 2 Singles. As for Doubles, Brenden Hamari and Gabe Smith won first place in 2 Doubles and Cameron Mumbrue& Chase Maier took home gold in 4 Doubles.
Head Coach Ryan Ruzziconi took to Twitter that day to congratulate his team, particularly co-captains Opalewski, Durant and Trevor Wallace. He says the whole team put in a “great effort.”
The boys headed back to the court on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and will play again at home on Thursday, Aug. 23 for matches against Davison and Romeo, respectively.
