Bridget Burke passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at the age of 57 after a very courageous 10-year fight following a stroke.
Bridget was born on December 11, 1965 in Detroit to James W. and Margaret L. (Brown) Burke, who both preceeded her in death.
The family moved to Oxford in 1975 and Bridget started attending Daniel Axford Elementary School, joined Girl Scouts and in seventh grade started in band playing the saxophone.
In high school, she was a member of the high school marching band. As a Girl Scout, she earned both her Silver and Gold Awards, the highest honors a Girl Scout can achieve. Bridget is a former employee of the Village of Oxford Department of Public Works and the Oxford Police Department. Bridget was also a volunteer with the Oxford Fire Department for 10 years.
The greatest joy of her life came to be on her 29th birthday when she gave birth to her son, John, aka Jack Chiera. She could not have loved Jack any more than she did. She found enjoyment in rescuing animals; having rescued injured raccoons, orphaned fawns and housed multiple ducks and geese during their recovery.
Bridget is survived by her son Jack, her sisters Patricia Burke (Fred Rydholm), Colleen Burke, Mary Ellen (Jeff) Griffin, and Maureen (Dave) Helmuth. She is preceeded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Kathlyn A and Christopher Kerr.
