Bring in five cans of food or $5 to ONTV studio’s at the Orion Community Center on Josyln Road, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Feb. 8. Live music and entertainment throughout the day, including raffles. For more information go to their website, OxfordOrionFISH.org.
Rain barrels and gardens discussed
The Clinton River Watershed is hosting a free rain barrel and rain garden presentation on January 24, from 2-3 p.m. at the Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac St.). Attendees will learn how to install and maintain rain gardens and rain barrels at home to mitigate flooding and utilize runoff to your benefit. This is especially relevant given the amount of rain we’ve seen the past several weeks.
Although the event is free, registration is required. Attendees are asked to email contact@crwc.org to register.
School Board officers named
Most of Oxford’s school board officials left the Jan. 7 board of education meeting with the same titles they had walking in. However, there were a few changes made during the meeting that took place at Lakeville Elementary.
Dan D’Alessandro, former vice president of the school board, will now hold the title of trustee, along with current trustees Mary Hanser and Erick Foster through the 2020 calendar year. Former trustee Chad Griffith was elected as the new vice president.
Tom Donnelly will continue to hold the title of school board president until his current term expires at the end of the year.
Treasurer Korey Bailey and Secretary Heather Shafer both kept their positions as well with their current terms on the school board expiring in 2022 and 2020 respectively.
As for board committees: Hanser joined Shafer and Bailey on the policy committee. In previous years, only two school board officials served on this committee, however that number has been bumped up to three.
The next board of education meeting is Feb. 11 at Oxford Virtual Academy (OVA) District Learning Center, 160 S. Washington St. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
