Beaumont files suit
Last Tuesday, Beaumont Health filed a lawsuit against Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services after the state denied their request to build a 225,000-square-foot, 117-bed hospital on 25 acres in Oxford Township. The lawsuit was filed in the Michigan Court of Claims.
“Through the State’s Certificate of Need (CON) process, Beaumont responded to the State’s determination of a need for a limited access area hospital in Oxford. We remain committed to this project and will continue our efforts to provide health care in Oxford. We have land under agreement and we’re eager to serve the community,” said Beaumont’s Director of External Communications, Mark Geary.
The Court of Claims has limited jurisdiction to hear and determine “all civil actions filed against the State of Michigan and its agencies. These cases include … contracts, constitutional claims, prisoner litigation, tax-related suits, and other claims for money damages,” according the court’s website.
