Oxford’s boys are now five games strong in their undefeated streak.
On Dec. 17, Royal Oak proved to be no match for the Wildcats, who cruised to a 51-35 win. Though the game started slow, junior forward Trey Townsend got the boys going by hitting a 3-pointer early on. Throughout the first half, Townsend was one of the big point contributors and racked up 16 points by the end of the game.
With the help of senior forward Michael Rasich, who would also score 16 points throughout the night, the Wildcats were up by four going into the second half.
The team’s starting lineup went strong throughout the third quarter, and the boys who came off the bench in the fourth sealed the deal for another win.
Sophomore guard Zach Townsend came off the bench and knocked out back to back 3-point shots in the fourth quarter. Also proving to be a key player, senior forward Connor Nicholson used fouls in the fourth quarter to his advantage and made four points off of free throws alone.
Two more players who were important in the game’s final moments were Trey Townsend and senior forward Grant Kornburger, who played strong defense and caused a few charging fouls on Romeo’s end.
With a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 OAA Blue record, the boys are looking to keep their momentum moving forward as the season goes on.
After playing Berkley at home on Dec. 21, the boys will break for the holidays and be back on the road on Jan. 4 against Harrison.
