Oxford Leader Editor C.J. Carnacchio earned the 67th journalism award of his 15-year career April 16 at the annual Excellence in Media Awards presented by the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
The 38-year-old Oxford resident won second place in the feature photography category for the above photo entitled, ‘Lion Lovin?.?
The photo was snapped at downtown Oxford’s Scarecrow Festival.
Of the photo, the judges wrote, ‘The entries in this category made the task of selecting a winner extremely difficult. One judge scored the photo as best. The shock of what appears to be a lion in the little (girl’s) face gives way to smiles when the cutline reveals it’s only a dog dressed as a lion. What a story! The photography captured the moment perfectly.?
In this category, Carnacchio competed against two photographers from HOUR Detroit magazine.
