Over the weekend, the host of a television show found ‘buried treasure? at an Orion Township residence.
Cari Cucksey, host of Cash & Cari, a show on the Home & Garden Television channel, brought the show to Lake Orion, to a residence on Merritt Avenue.
The show follows Cucksey as she runs estate sales, buys and sells anything from heirlooms to seemingly junk, and follows the mantra – ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.?
Cucksey, of Northville, has been buying and selling for a profit since she was 12-years-old.
She said her interest in antiques in particular started because of her constant exposure to old things.
‘My mother was always dragging me around to antique shops, garage sales, and flea markets,? said Cucksey. ‘After going to a lot of these places for a while, a lightbulb went off.
‘I know a little about a lot of these items, I have a passion for it, I love to research, and I love digging for and hunting for treasure.?
Cash & Cari visited Lake Orion for one such estate sale, though the home being explored hit a personal note with Cucksey, as the home and belongings within belonged to her grandparents.
Cucksey said that it was strange to be selling off items she recognized from her past.
‘It was really hard filming [this sale,] and it really turned into an emotional roller-coaster,? said Cucksey. ‘It was kind of funny how my grandfather couldn’t believe how much stuff he had – once we had all the stuff out, he was shocked.
‘I’m just happy to know that a lot of these items went to great homes.?
The show, which began in January, already has nine episodes in the works.
Cucksey said working in television is a lot of work, is not glamorous, but she believes it’s a great opportunity.
