Nearly 40 veterans representing the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines visited Leonard Elementary Friday morning for the fifth-grade’s annual Veterans Day celebration. Students interviewed veterans about their experiences, then honored them with music and words of thanks and praise.

Oxford Middle School choir students put on their annual Americana Concert Friday night at the high school Performing Arts Center. A total of 220 sixth-through-eighth-graders sung a variety of patriotic songs in honor of Veterans Day.

Leonard’s parade of ghouls

Little ghosts and goblins could be found parading down the streets of Leonard last Tuesday during the annual Leonard Parade. Let’s take a field trip!

Clear Lake Elementary second-graders went on a field trip Nov. 3 to learn all about goods and services. The kids visited Funky Monkey Toys, Johnston Photography, the Oxford Village Police station and the Oxford Public Library. Students did everything from buy toys to play in a jail cell. What fun!  

Pay raise for sub. teachers

Oxford Schools is raising the pay for guest teachers in an effort to attract more certified substitute teachers to the district. The new daily rate for substitutes who work in Oxford Community Schools will be $95 per day effective Nov. 6. The previous rate was $85 per day.
