Cats pummel Stoney Creek

Oxford’s varsity football team showed no mercy on the gridiron Sept. 28 as the Wildcats tore Rochester Stoney Creek to pieces, strutting away with a 42-6 victory and putting a severe damper on the Cougars’ homecoming festivities

For the Cats, it was a chance to wash away the bitter taste of the 17-8 defeat they suffered the week before at the hands of Rochester Adams.

For Stoney Creek, it was the team’s fifth straight loss.

The Cats set the tone for the night in the first quarter by scoring 28 unanswered points.

Trent Myre drew first blood with a 61-yard touchdown run.

Caleb Tabert followed it up with a 38-yard touchdown run. Instead of kicking an extra point, Myre went on the run and scored a two-point conversion.

Matthew Pullman ran 19 yards and put another touchdown on the board for the Cats.

That was followed by a two-yard touchdown run, courtesy of Brennan Mielnicki, near the end of the first quarter.

Mielnicki scored another touchdown in the second quarter on a one-yard run.

Oxford didn’t score again until the third quarter when Pullman entered the end zone for the second time following a 33-yard run, giving the Cats a 42-0 lead.

Stoney Creek finally managed to score one touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a three-yard pass, but the Cougars were denied the extra point when Oxford blocked the kick.

In terms of offensive yardage, Oxford dominated Stoney Creek with the Cats racking up 347 yards in 39 plays to the Cougars’ 153 yards in 41 plays.

Quarterback Drew Carpenter led the Cats in rushing that night with 75 yards. He was followed by Myre with 67 yards, Pullman with 63 yards, Mielnicki with 54 yards and Tabert with 47 yards.

Oxford’s overall record now stands at 4-2. The Wildcats are 2-2 in league play.

The Cats will hit the road again Friday as they take on the undefeated Clarkston Wolves in their den. Game time is 7 p.m.
