Out of the cookbook and into the oven!
Foodies around Oxford are invited to “Cooking the Books: Food, Fun and New Friends” at the Oxford Public Library Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
September’s Cooking the Books theme is “Harvest Foods.”
Before the event, Oxford residents are invited to select a cookbook from the library’s collection, which follows the chosen theme for the month, and make a recipe from it to share with others.
During the event, participants will serve the dishes they cooked up and share recipe information.
“Who doesn’t love food?,” OPL Head of Adult Services Sandy Gilmore said with a chuckle. “Participants are going to be able to share an interest with fellow patrons as far as finding people who have the same interest (in) cooking and food. It will also introduce them to the variety of cookbooks that we have at the Oxford Public Library and it will be a fun experience for them to come and make new friends.”
This new program is set to be a monthly event. In the coming months, October’s Cooking the Books theme will center on Asian-inspired cooking, while November’s will feature an Italian Feast.
Despite the set theme, the cookbooks will still feature plenty of diverse dishes, according to Gilmore.
“We’ll be highlighting different books that talk about harvest foods and sharing some insight into foods that can be considered harvest foods that might be outside the box for people, like berries and honey for example. Sometimes people hear harvest and they think it’s all going to be pumpkins and potatoes. This will be our very first meeting so we’re really excited to see how much participation we’re going to have,” said Gilmore.
Oxford Public Library is located at 530 Pontiac Road in Oxford.
