Looking to start a winning tradition this season, the Wildcat cheerleaders started off their competitive season by landing fourth place at the CCCAM (Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan) meet on Dec. 7.
Throughout the day, the ladies made an overall score of 705.80. The score not only landed them fourth place, but also put them in the top 10 group routine scores in the state.
This season, the cheer team is jammed with seniors. This first meet only increased Head Coach Alanna Weber’s confidence that the ladies can contend for a place at the state championships.
“We had a strong performance and this team proved that they are going to be a strong contender in our league and district,” Weber said. “Although, it was our first competition of the year, we had a great day and the girls looked comfortable on the mat and showed confidence in all the rounds that they performed.”
Going into their next competition this weekend on Dec. 15, the Railsplitter Invite, the team is looking to hone their skills and improve their finishing score.
“This week we will work on tweaking a few things for the next competition, mostly to fix skills and stunts that were not timed properly,” Weber said. “We will be preparing for this weekend with practice all week. It was good to see the competition in our division and we know what to expect going forward.”
