When Art Pappas retired last year from his longtime post as Clarkston’s city manager, clerk and treasurer, he said it was ‘the people? he’d miss the most.
Apparently, the sentiment was mutual.
Across the city, many were planning a low-key day June 30’officially designated Art Pappas Day’but wanted to send Pappas good wishes on his one year retirement anniversary.
‘I’m so happy you are enjoying your retirement,? said Marcy Rotondo, who works in the village office. ‘But you are still missed.?
Clarkston News Reporter Laura Colvin wholeheartedly agreed.
‘No one calls me ‘kiddo? anymore,? she sighed.
But others intended to mark Art Pappas Day in an ‘Artful? way.
‘I plan to celebrate Art Pappas day by treating everyone I meet with respect and kindness,? said Kit Pappas, one of Art and Maryann Pappas? four children. ‘And at the end of the day I’ll celebrate with a perfectly mixed gimlet.?
His brother had a special’but potentially more active’day planned.
‘I’m celebrating Art Pappas day sipping Ouzo and brushing up on the Tsamiko, Syrtos, and Kalamatianos,? said John Pappas.
Did someone mention a delicious Greek beverage?
‘I think I’ll have a glass of Ouzo,? said Cory Johnston, ‘and then go ask the new city manager for something.?
Johnston didn’t say what he planned to request, but his wife wanted no part of it.
‘I’ll be planting the Clarkston dog garden in Depot Park,? said Robyn Johnston. ‘But it’s a secret, so don’t tell Art.?
