OXFORD TWP. – An attached condominium on Stony Lake Ct., just west of M-24, suffered an estimated $110,000 in structural damage as a result of a fire that erupted inside it on Friday, Sept. 7.
“It did a substantial amount of damage,” said Oxford Assistant Fire Chief Dave Creech, who’s been with the department since 1986.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m.
“There was a tremendous amount of smoke in the area,” Creech said.
No one was injured as the condo was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
“It had been vacant for, according to the homeowner, six years,” Creech said.
The condo was undergoing some renovations.
The Fire Investigation Unit from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to determine the cause. “It’s still under investigation,” Creech said.
He noted the fire was contained to the unit in which it started.
“The fire wall did its job and kept all the fire out (of) the adjoining unit,” Creech said.
Oxford firefighters were assisted at the scene by an engine and manpower from the Orion Twp. Fire Department. Firefighters from Brandon and Addison townships provide coverage for Oxford’s stations.
