Brandon Twp.- Consumers Energy will make a decision by the end of this month on which roads to release in the final phase of a gas main extension project in the township.
Township Supervisor Kathy Thurman announced at the board meeting Monday night that the public utility has received 351 returned applications for gas service in the phase 3 area, short by about 75 applications for the 50 percent participation needed for full release of the project.
In phase three, applications were sent to 855 homes. In January, Consumers said it would release some of the roads in the project area, including Oakwood, Briar Ridge, Presidio, Freedom Trail, Lockwood, Poli, Sumac, Wallace Trail, Wallace Boulevard, Green Creeks Lane, Sunkist Drive, W. Davison Lake, Davison Lake, Justice Drive, Liberty Lane, Sinroll Lane, Hollyhock Lane, N. Sashabaw, Woodpoint, S. Hurd, N. Hurd, Burt Court, Willow Hollow, Oak Ridge Trail, Middleton Court, Shipman, N. Coats, LeGault, Silver Birch, Big Fish Lake and Connell.
However, not all homeowners who have applied for service can expect to get it, including those on parts of Connell and Hummer Lake roads, unless the 50 percent participation goal is met.
Natural gas main installation began in Brandon in 2012, with more than 225 customers signing up for phase one. Construction of the second phase included more than 380 customers and was completed in December. Construction on the third phase will take place this summer and should be completed by the end of the year.
