Apparently, Oxford Village meetings are so nice, council wants to hold them twice a month.
Last week, council voted 5-0 to conduct work/study sessions on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. beginning this month.
These meetings will be used to review and discuss issues, but no action (i.e. votes) will be taken.
They will be posted as required under the Open Meetings Act and open to the public.
Councilman Erik Dolan said the goal of these meetings is to “reach consensus on issues” and “iron out” details.
“They’re going to be informal,” noted village President Sue Bossardet.
Instead of the council chambers, work/study meetings will be held in the community room next door.
Council votes will be taken during the regular village meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
Officials plan to use the work/study meeting to catch up on all the things that have been hanging fire in the village.
“We need to wade through some of these issues that we’ve got listed as ‘set aside,’” Bossardet said. “Plus, all the other things that are coming up.”
She was referring to the lengthy list of “set aside and future meeting items” printed on the back of each council agenda.
Some of these items include dispatch services and potential water and sewer rate increases.
Council agreed with Bossardet.
“There’s a significant number of issues that are on the back-burner and on the table,” Dolan said. “It seems as if, with the infrequency of meetings, it’s difficult to get through business.”
“I think we’d all like to start knocking some of this stuff off the back (of the agenda),” said Councilwoman Maureen Helmuth. “Let’s just get it done.”
Bossardet doesn’t mind the extra meeting and always keeps the fourth Tuesday open anyway, just in case there’s a need for another council meeting.
“When I signed on for this job, I signed up to do what was needed to be done for the village,” she said.
