Council appoints Sue Oles to DDA board

Sue Oles, owner of The Boulevard Boutique and Shabby Chic, is the newest member of the Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

“It will be a learning experience, that’s for sure, and I hope to bring some new ideas as a business owner,” she said.

Last week, the village council voted 5-0 to appoint Oles to the DDA board.

“I have lived in this town for 30 years,” she said. “I love this community.”

Oles has owned and operated The Boulevard Boutique, an upscale consignment shop located at 5 S. Washington St., for eight years.

Prior to that, she worked as a sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics where she helped women develop their own businesses for 30 years.

Oles previously served on the board of directors for the Oxford Chamber of Commerce.

Her primary reason for wanting to serve on the DDA board is to help guide the downtown area through the M-24 project slated for either 2019 or 2020. “My concern is that when you do road construction, brick-and-mortar (businesses) suffer,” she said.

“I want to remain open,” noted Oles, who hopes to play a role in determining detour routes and ensuring people continue to patronize downtown businesses during the project.
