After being a youth pastor for 15 years as well as working in a residential behavior treatment center Jon Richey decided to pursue a similar line of work.
‘With the experience I’ve had with adolescents and families, I wanted to stay kind of in that area,? he said.
After graduating from Cornerstone University with a Master’s Degree in counseling, Richey decided to open his own practice, En Gedi Counseling, PLLC located in Winship’s building at 7183 N. Main Street, suite L.
‘The program at Cornerstone trains people for private practice that there is an advantage there then with other degrees, he said. ‘That’s one of the things my professor always encouraged people and really encouraged me. He felt like I had the ability to start a private practice.?
Since being a youth pastor Richey said ‘youth and family? is an area he really enjoys and the impact is ‘stronger when the family is involved.?
‘When I’m able to pull the parents in and work with them too, then the impact is going to be much greater or it should be anyway,? he said. ‘Just to be able to talk with them and help them as they empower their child.?
Having two children with Autism, Richey also specializes in Autism, Asperger’s, and ADHD, depression and anxiety, anger management, pre-marital counseling and preparation, as well as grief management.
He lives in Clarkston with his wife of 17 years, Becky and daughter Hannah, 13 and son Jacob, 11.
