Crash leaves pedestrian dead

A 63-year-old Oxford Township man died Oct. 29 after being struck by a vehicle on W. Drahner Rd. at approximately 6:26 a.m.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, who had a lighting device on him, was walking his dog and crossing the road in a non-crosswalk location. Investigators said he was struck near the double yellow line in the center of the road, near Brookside Ct., by a westbound 2008 Buick Enclave, driven by a 21-year-old Metamora man.

Following the crash, the driver stopped, called 9-1-1 and remained on scene until deputies and emergency medical personnel from the Oxford Fire Department arrived.

The pedestrian was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac and pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m.

The deceased’s dog was located after the crash. The animal was unharmed and returned home to its family.

Alcohol or drug use is not believed to be a factor for the driver, according to the sheriff’s office. The crash remains under investigation.
