The first -ever Oxford Dance Conservatory Spring Showcase will be held Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in the Oxford Fine Arts Center, located at Oxford High School.
‘We are very excited,? said Instructor Katy Koivunen. ‘This is a very big deal.?
‘This spring show is our student showcase, which has mostly student choreographed dances and a few faculty pieces as well,? Koivunen noted, who runs the department along with Instructors Jasmine Hardwick and Samantha Bingham.
Koivunen said the conservatory has about 20 students. Of those 20, four of them are in what’s called ‘The Oxford Dance Conservatory Company.?
‘You audition to be in the program, but then, you audition again to be a part of the company,? she explained. ‘It’s more selective.?
Ashley Zardus, Maggie Malfroid, Selena Pena and Alexa McKinley will be the company students performing.
‘They are very talented and very excited,? Koivunen added. ‘This is the first year in our program we have students choreographing their own dances. Some of them are freshman and have never done this before and I’ve seen some very great things they’re going to show.?
Admission is free; however, concessions will be sold and donations collected.
