Three local students are part of a hockey team that recently took silver medals at a competition in Bay City.
Daniel Axford (DA) Elementary first-graders William Frost and Delaney O’Dowd along with Harper Frost, a developmental kindergartner at DA, are members of the Lapeer Storm 6U Red Team.
The team placed second at the annual Puck O’ the Irish tournament held Feb. 22-24 at the Bay County Civic Arena. They won five of seven games played over three days.
“None of these games was easy,” said Head Coach Joe Frost, of Oxford Village. “It was tough.”
The Storm is part of the Lapeer County Hockey Association’s 6U Cross Ice program. Home ice for the Storm is the Polar Palace Arena Complex in Lapeer.
Frost said the Storm took a total of 19 players, divided into two teams, to the Bay City tournament. The other team placed fourth.
In Frost’s opinion, “the toughest game” was when the Storm teams faced each other.
“That was a close game,” he said. “The kids are evenly matched. They’ve been playing and scrimmaging against each other all season.”
Overall, Frost said both teams “skated really well” and played hard in their first competitive tournament.
“I’m proud of these kids,” he said.
