This year’s fall play at Goodrich High School is straying off the beaten path.
‘Days of Possibilities? will be performed Nov. 17-19 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Raymond C. Green Center for the Performing Arts, 8029 S. Gale Road.
‘Days of Possibilities? is a collection of stories detailing the Vietnam War era and the heightened emotions felt across the nation, particularly at Oberlin College in Ohio.
‘It’s based on oral histories,? said GHS Theater Director Steve Mitchell. ‘Nothing is made up.?
The play comes from Richard Orloff, who interviewed several students at Oberlin College about their sentiments pertaining to the Vietnam War, and pieced them together in one story with many viewpoints about the issues at the time.
‘I like the era,? said Mitchell. ‘I think it’s appropriate as to what’s going on in today’s world. It may not be quite as radical, but the sentiments are still felt.?
Another unique feature of ‘Days of Possibilities? is its design.
‘It’s different in the sense it’s more conceptual,? said Mitchell. ‘It’s very intensive with lights and special effects. It’s a lot more technical.?
For Mitchell, he wants to portray the theater as ‘so much more.?
‘It’s storytelling as well,? he said.
‘Days of Possibilities? stars Claire Zander, Allysen Benson, Devyn Mitchell, Natalie Whitlock, Alisse Laymac, Hayley Ryan, Steven Brauer, Steven Patterson, Thomas Flotemersch, R.J. Lawler, and Jake Lawler. There will be some strong language present, but it has been scaled back, Mitchell said.
