The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office will be taking over dispatch services for Oxford Village sooner than originally planned.
Last week, council voted 3-1 to approve an amended dispatch contract with the county. Instead of taking effect on Jan. 10, 2018, the county will begin handling all 9-1-1 and police-related calls on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The contract will run through March 31, 2018 and cost the village a total of $41,533 for 16 months of service.
That’s significantly less than the $338,300 the village had budgeted to continue operating its own dispatch center for the 2016-17 fiscal year.
In return for closing its local dispatch center and contracting with another agency, the village will receive a one-time $50,000 payment from the county’s Courts and Law Enforcement Management Information System (CLEMIS).
