DPW supervisor issue not on agenda

Ortonville – Council agreed to table an “old business” discussion regarding hiring a Department of Public Works Supervisor.
“In a couple of weeks we will have an assessment of what we need,” said Village Council President Sue Bess.
Bess told council that the personnel committee is in the process of making sure everything is smooth in the DPW department, to see what skills are still needed.
“We’re assessing in-house for what we have right now.”
Council member Mary Kassuba stated not having a supervisor in that department is not fair to the two workers remaining, and council member Harold Batten said five weeks is long enough to be without a supervisor.
“This has taken five weeks to assess,” Batten said,“Basically we had a supervisor, and need one there.”
“If we needed a clerk we wouldn’t float without one.”
In the interim, Manager Paul Zelenak told council said he is meeting with Shane Eliassen and Dan Hackman, twice a week, to discuss issues within the department and said neither employee seems to be unhappy with the arrangement.
