Wildcats to host Stoney Creek for Homecoming

After an emotional victory over Birmingham Groves High School on Sept. 2, Oxford High School’s varsity football team was hoping to continue some home-town magic against cross-town rival Lake Orion, last Friday. At stake was the coveted Double O trophy, but when the final seconds ticked off the game clock, it was the Dragons who improved their record to 2-1, downing Oxford 28-10.

In front of a full house of Wildcat fans, Oxford controlled the first quarter – driving down the field inside Lake Orion’s 10 yard line. That drive chewed up almost nine minutes of the game clock. Their drive stalled and they settled for a field goal, to score first.

The teams traded touchdowns with Oxford taking a 10-7 lead early in the third quarter. And, that’s where the wheels fell off for the Wildcats. Lake Orion scored a touchdown and took the lead for good with about two minutes left in the third quarter.

Oxford’s record now is 1-2 over all and 0-1 in the Oakland Athletic Association Red division. This week Oxford will host Stoney Creek (-2-1) for the annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
