The Dragons added another team to their list of victims last Friday when the team crushed the West Bloomfield Lakers 42-7.
Lake Orion began the game strong and didn’t let up until the final play of the game when the Lakers finally pushed through to get on the scoreboard. The Dragons defense was in its usual form, creating turnovers and stopping plays.
On the offense, the performances were spread, as Head Coach Chris Bell took the opportunity to get most of his players on the field. Seniors Jordan Waymer, Jacob Miller and juniors Chris Leigh and Dom Giovinazzo all scored touchdowns rushing with a combined 228 yards combined on the score. Seniors Chaz Miller and Derek DeLaura accounted for one touchdown with a combined 66 yards on the scoring play.
But despite the victories over the Lakers and Troy Athens last week (68-20), Bell said his team cannot afford to get over-confident.
‘We’ve played well the last two weeks and completely dominated,? he said. ‘It’s a matter of us playing well and the reality is that the two teams we played were struggling. We’re not going to get over confident because we have tough games ahead of us.?
When asked what his team’s strong suit was, Bell said besides defense the Dragon possess a lot of different ‘weapons.? The team continues to run the ball well with the help of running backs junior Zach Arnold Waymer, defensive backs junior Corey Ester and Leigh and senior wide receiver Chaz Miller. Starting quarterback Delaura is also playing well according to Bell.
Next up for the Dragons are the Stoney Creek Cougars, which is playing it’s first season in the OAA Red Division. Bell said the Dragons would give them their first real test and said the Cougars are a better team than they’ve faced in the past two weeks.
‘We’re anticipating a very good football game,? said Bell.
The game is at home at 7 p.m.
