Drunk driver charged after striking Brandon motorcyclist

A 50-year-old Independence Township driver who struck a Brandon Township motorcyclist last week has been charged with operating while intoxicated, causing serious injury.
Brian Blaga was arraigned on the charge July 29 in front of 52-2 District Court Magistrate Thomas Raguso.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports, at about 10:25 p.m., July 26, a 19-year-old Brandon Township man was driving a 2003 Yamaha R6 motorcycle northbound on Sashabaw Road, approaching the intersection of Waldon Road. He entered the intersection on a green light and Blaga, driving a 2013 GMC Sierra southbound on Sashabaw, turned left into the Yamaha.
The motorcyclist was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital where he remained listed in stable condition on July 30, after sustaining serious injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Blaga was not injured. He was taken into police custody for operating while intoxicated. His bond has been set at $5,000 personal. Blaga is to be supervised by pretrial services, he is not to use any drugs or alcohol, and was to have an alcohol monitoring tether installed prior to his release from the Oakland County Jail.
The crash remains under investigation.
