Duane Donald Brokaw, a longtime Leonard resident, passed away August 9, 2017 surrounded by his family, just shy of his 91st birthday.
He was born August 19, 1926, the son of Alfred and Anna (Hansen) Brokaw in Ionia. Duane’s family moved to Romeo in the early 40’s where he graduated from Romeo High School in 1944.
He served his country in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. Duane was a Rifleman in the 161 Infantry, 25th Division. During his service, he received two Bronze Battle Stars and one Victory Medal. Duane married his beloved wife Margaret Jean Strong February 14, 1959 in Romeo and moved to Leonard where he lived the rest of his life. He worked at the General Motors Truck Plant in Pontiac for 40 years. Duane was a member of the American Legion Walter Fraser Post 108 in Oxford. He enjoyed going to his hunting camp in northern Michigan but, especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Duane is survived by his beloved daughter Judy Ann (Robert) Anderson of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, One grandson Kyle Linnum of Charleston, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his beloved Wife Margaret of 57 years in December of 2016 and beloved siblings Louise Klein and Alvera Wisinski.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 12 at Roth-Muir Funeral Home in Romeo. Burial was at Lakeville Cemetery (825 Drahner Rd.-Leonard.)
