Community Choice Foundation recently awarded 25 scholarships for a combined total of $100,000 for students throughout the state of Michigan. These students are continuing their educational careers within Michigan at universities, in skilled trade programs and as part of continuing education curriculum. Most recipients and family members attended the annual Scholarship Ceremony held on May 11 at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth.

One of those students is Oxford High School graduate and Valedictorian Michael Duong. Duong received a $5,000 scholarship. He plans on attending the University of Michigan to study mechanical engineering.

To date the Scholarship Program has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships for high school students and young men and women in our community. Each scholarship recipient not only excelled in the classroom but possesses a passion for community involvement. Through the scholarship program, the Community Choice Foundation empowers local students to achieve their dreams while remaining in Michigan.

The Foundation received interest from more than 2,500 applicants for the 2023 Scholarship Program. To qualify, applicants must live in Michigan, plan on attending a Michigan college or university, and pledge to stay in Michigan after college. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required along with a strong record of volunteerism or public service. Recipients are encouraged but do not have to be members of Community Choice Credit Union.

Scholarships were awarded to students based on academic performance, community involvement, and a short, written essay describing how they plan to contribute to their community and Michigan through their chosen career.
