A short, two-day closure of the east side of the Burdick St./M-24 intersection in downtown Oxford is planned for this weekend, Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19. During those days, drivers heading east or west on Burdick will not be able to cross M-24 (Washington St.).
M-24 southbound traffic will still proceed through the intersection as usual. Southbound traffic can also turn right onto W. Burdick, and westbound traffic can turn right onto M-24 southbound. M-24 northbound remains closed.
Since the Drahner intersection is now open, folks needing to cross M-24 west can follow the detour route along Pontiac St., Drahner Rd. and Glaspie St. Folks needing to cross east can turn left onto M-24 from Broadway St., turn west on Drahner, then north on Pontiac back to Burdick. A map of detour routes can be viewed at RestoreM-24.com.
The weekend closure is for pipe crews to replace the storm sewer. A longer, two-week closure of the intersection for surface work is in the near future, possibly at the end of the month or in early August, according to MDOT project engineer Brian Travis.
