The Oxford High School varsity track and field teams took part in the 59th Elmer Ball Invitational on Saturday, April 30 at OHS. Across 16 events for women and 17 events for men, the OHS teams came out in first and seventh out of 24 teams respectively.
“Both the Oxford boy’s and girl’s teams had great performances against top flight competition,” Brian Drobnich, OHS track and field head coach, said via email.
First place finishers for Oxford were Eriana Hubbard in the women’s discus throw and shot put, Dylan Stone in the men’s high jump and Logan Hollingsworth in the men’s pole vault. Second place finishers were Mallory Bigelow in the women’s 1600-meter and 3200-meter, Faith Diegel in the women’s pole vault and the women’s 4 x 800-meter relay team of Taylor Brodeur, Avery Feeney, Jessa Chapin and Braydee Elling. Caprice Fields and Elizabeth Rice scored points alongside Hubbard to help the Wildcats dominate the women’s shot put event.
“The very large meet went smoothly thanks to coach Mike Sudrovech and the many parent volunteers,” Drobnich said.
The track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday, May 7 at the Algonac High School Muskrat Classic. Events start at 9 a.m.
