The Oxford Free Meals program volunteers will be out on the streets in downtown Oxford on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 selling copies of the Oxford Leader and The County Press to raise funds for the program.
Look for the volunteers from noon to 6 p.m. on the corners of Burdick Street and M-24. Last year, the Free Meals volunteers collected more than $1,100 in donations from caring Oxford residents, said Connie Miller, head of Free Meals.
Proceeds from the newspaper sale fundraiser will help stock the food pantry and assist with purchasing ingredients to prepare the meals.
The Free Meals program is run solely by volunteers out of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 1 Hovey St. The independent program is funded by grants and donations. Immanuel Congregational provides food pantry space and serves as the distribution location.
The Free Meals program provides a hot takeout meal and a bag of groceries to individuals and families in need each Wednesday.
Anyone who would like to donate to the program, or become a volunteer, can also contact Connie Miller at 248-933-4579. – J.N.
