Volunteers from the Free Meals program sold copies of The Oxford Leader and The County Press on Thursday to raise funds for the program.
Volunteers were on the corners of Burdick Street and M-24 and collected more than $1,100 in donations, said Connie Miller, head of Free Meals.
The Free Meals program is run solely by volunteers out of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 1 Hovey St. The independent program is funded by grants and donations. Immanuel Congregational provides food pantry space and serves as the distribution location.
The Free Meals program provides a hot takeout meal and a bag of groceries to individuals and families each Wednesday. Proceeds from the newspaper sale fundraiser will help stock the food pantry and assist with purchasing ingredients to prepare the meals.
Anyone who would like to donate to the program, or become a volunteer, can contact Connie Miller at 248-933-4579. – J.N.
