Farmers? season just getting started

Cooking demonstrations, children’s art activities, henna tattoos and face painting: the Clarkston Farmers? Market will offer a number of special activities and products when it kicks off the Bicycles for Humanity collection Saturday, July 25.
From 9:30 a.m-11: 30 a.m., renowned musician Mark Stone’along with a Ghanaian friend’will entertain market-goers with African themed music.
Hungry? East River Organic Farms will grill up certified organic grass-fed beef burgers; Essence on Main will offer cooking demonstrations and the Clarkston Optimist Club will brew up fresh joe as the market features Beans for Bikes, a certified organic fair trade coffee blend that will be sold all season to support the bike program.
The coffee is available by the pound’in ground and whole-bean varieties’or by the cup, brewed fresh and sold on site by the Optimists.
‘People can taste it to see how they like it,? said Market Manager Anissa Howard. ‘It’s actually really good.?
But, she noted, market visitors should remember the main attraction.
‘The season is opening,? Howard said. ‘Our Michigan harvest is really starting to come in. The blueberries are here; the broccoli and cauliflower is coming in, and we’ve got honey now, which we didn’t at the beginning of the season.?
