Get ready to put on your party hats and head over to Seymour Lake Township Park for a festival that includes fireworks, music and a carnival.
This is the second year the Oxford Township Parks and Recreation Department is putting on the ‘Seymour Celebration,? but instead of being a one-day event, it’s been expanded to three days (Thursday, July 8 through Saturday, July 10).
‘It was based on popular demand,? said Parks/Rec. Director Ron Davis. ‘People just raved about how nice the fireworks were and wanted us to continue and add some additional things.?
The main attraction will be the carnival, run by Skerbeck Bros. Shows Inc. and open all three days ? 5-10 p.m. Thursday and 12 noon-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
One-day passes for the carnival ? $17 per person prior the event and $20 per person at the gate ? will be for sale. ‘That’s an all-day, all-ride pass,? Davis said.
‘We get a percentage of their take for the games and the rides,? said Davis, noting the money will be used to finance the fireworks show set to begin around 10-10:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 10.
This way parks and rec. can avoid charging a gate fee to get into the celebration like it did last year to help pay for the fireworks.
‘That and (the carnival) adds more flavor to the event,? Davis noted.
With regard to the fireworks show, Davis indicated last year’s went for approximately 25 minutes and included over 725 shells.
‘They told us this year’s would be bigger and better,? he said.
The Seymour Celebration will also include:
n Bob Seger Tribute Band: 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8.
n Movie Night starts at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 9. Planet 51 is the featured flick.
n Vendor Alley: Saturday, July 10 ? At least 35 business vendors from the Oxford-Orion-Brandon area will have tables set up to display their products and provide information about their services.
n Hot Air Balloon Launch: Around 7 p.m. Saturday (weather permitting) ? Colorful balloons from the Oxford-based Sky Adventures will take off from the park.
n Classic Car Show: 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday ? Nearly 200 vintage vehicles are expected to show off their polished chrome and pristine engines.
n Inflatables for the kids: Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. and running until 8 p.m.
n Hayrides: Going on throughout the day Saturday.
n Classic Rock Bands: 6-10 p.m Saturday ? The Bush Pilots and Main Switch.
The Splashpad and Kids Kingdom playground will be open all three days of the celebration.
As always, the playground will be free and so will the Splashpad for residents. Nonresident Splashpad users will be charged $4 per kid (adults are free).
