Oxford-Orion FISH Food Pantry has sold their former home.
The building, containing approximately 3,800-square-feet of space, located at 487 First St. in Thomas had been on the market since February of this year. In October of 2018, FISH moved its operation to 1060 S. Lapeer Rd, a 5,000-square-foot building that provided more space for the pantry.
According to Randy Gower, treasurer for FISH, a Sept. 4 article in The Oxford Leader written by former Leader editor C.J. Carnacchio, regarding the old facility led to some interest from a few contractors. While the first offer ended up falling through, it led to the purchase of the building by a contractor from Milford.
“He is going to turn it into a residence for the village of Thomas,” Gower said. “I’m sure it’s going to end up being a very nice residence for somebody. It looks like a church fellowship hall, but it will probably have very nice living quarters in it.”
While FISH did not receive the asking price for the building, Gower said the money they did receive from the purchase will go toward “food for the clients of the area” as well as operational expenses.
