Former township woman charged in home invasions

A 22-year-old woman faces up to five years in prison after being charged in the theft of numerous weapons from a Brandon Township home last fall.
Samantha Leighann Layman of Pontiac, formerly of Brandon Township, was arraigned on a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property of more than $1,000 on Aug. 26 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley Kostin. According to police, Layman was involved in two home invasions occurring on Oct. 30 and Nov. 3 at a home in the 3500 block of Dartmouth.
Items taken from the homeowner, Layman’s ex-boyfriend, included 31 knives, six swords, computer equipment, a Canon camcorder, crossbow, a Chinese rifle, shotgun, disassembled firearm, and a jail uniform.
The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be more than $5,000.
Layman has an extensive criminal history, including a felonious assault conviction stemming from a failed drug deal in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park on Sept. 18, 2007.
