Oxford Schools had four employees retire this year and 13 teachers receive tenure.
Retired teachers included Claudia Blasco, Doreen Moser, Jeannie Crampton and Mary Murphy.
Blasco, a paraprofessional at Daniel Axford Elementary, is retiring after 23 years with the district. She began her career working as a noon-aide for three years at DA. She was then hired as a full-time paraprofessional.
During her career, she also worked at Lakeville and Leonard elementary schools.
“It has been wonderful,” Blasco said. “Working with students has been the highlight of every day.”
Crampton has been a teacher in Oxford for 26 of her 38 years in education. Crampton has spent the last three years working at Oxford Virtual Academy. Previously, she worked as a teacher at Crossroads for Youth.
“I have enjoyed my years at Oxford and have made many lifelong friends,” she said.
According to Crampton, she plans on working as a substitute teacher in her retirement and spending time in Traverse City, where she grew up. She will often travel to visit her two children, Lucas and Madeline, who are finishing their college years at Grand Valley State University and The University of Tennessee.
Moser, who works at Lakeville Elementary in Child Care, has been with the district for the past 27 years.
“It’s bittersweet. I’ll miss the kids and their families… the kids are wonderful. What comes out of their mouths can be so funny,” Moser said with chuckle.
She plans to spend her retirement traveling with her husband, who will join her in retirement. Moser will also focus on spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Retiree Mary Murphy, a paraprofessional at Lakeville Elementary, has worked for the district for 21 years.
Teachers receiving tenure included Oxford School staff Katie Cudnohufsky and Ashley Wilkinson; Maria Alvarez-Valero (Leonard Elementary); Virginia Benjamin and Jennifer Trombly (Clear Lake Elementary); Robin Graft (Oxford Elementary); Beverly Stitzel (Oxford Middle School); Michelle Green (Oxford Virtual Academy); Andrew Bausack, Dana Brewer, Norman Petersimes, Jill Gregg and Pamela Fine (Oxford High School).
