The morning announcements at Oxford Elementary School on June 8 included some special guests who presented a very important award to OES fourth-grader Sebastian Robertson for his heroic response during a recent medical emergency. On May 3, Sebastian quickly sprang into action when he saw a fellow student collapse in his classroom. By his own accord, Sebastian ran to get the AED from the hall to aid his teacher in responding to the emergency. Thankfully the student is well and fully recovered. Upon hearing of Sebastian’s quick and thoughtful response, Oxford Fire Lt. Kevin Snell contacted SaveMiHeart, a non-profit organization working to improve cardiac arrest survival, and shared his story.
Today Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz, Asst. Fire Chief Matthew Majestic, Lt. Kevin Snell along with Supt. Ken Weaver and Asst. Supt. of Safety and Operations Jill Lemond honored Sebastian for his incredible efforts.
As Lt. Snell presented the SaveMiHeart award and special coin he shared, “Not many people in this world are ready and prepared to respond to an emergency like Sebastian did.”
Asst. Chief Majestic also presented Sebastian with a Challenge Coin on behalf of the Oxford Fire Department, “We only give these to our people, so now you are like one of us. We are so proud of you. We challenge you to be nice to people. We challenge you to help take care of people. We challenge you to look out for people. You have already started on that path and we are very proud of you.”
Lt. Snell also recognized Sebastian’s parents, “This couldn’t happen without good parenting at home. We really appreciate what you are doing.”
