Due to the Fourth of July falling on a Sunday this year, the parade and activities will take place on Saturday July 3.
The parade, put on by Independence Township Fire Department, will begin at 10 a.m. It starts at St. Daniel Catholic Church and ends at Clarkston United Methodist Church. This year’s theme is ‘Be a Patriot.?
Fourth of July activities will begin at 11 a.m. Festivities include children’s games, arts and craft show, food venders, live music, canine toss and fetch competition, and fireworks at dusk.
‘For our community to offer something like this to our residents, it’s pretty exciting since there have been a lot of budget cuts and some changes. It’s still a priority to the township board and priority to our department,? said Kelly Hyer, recreation supervisor. ‘Even with cutbacks we’re still going to do our best and offer a great day for people. We’re hoping to have a good turn out like the past couple years.?
She also said Clarkston Community Church and St. Trinity Church will also have Fourth of July festivities going on as well and offer a space for people to watch the fireworks.
‘It’s kind of neat to see they’re playing off our event and it’s not just us,? she said.
