Gary D. Sutherby, 87, a lifelong resident of Leonard, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1937, the son of Jessie and Marion (Porter) Sutherby, Jr. in Leonard. He graduated from Almont High School in 1955. Gary married the love of his life, Dolores Epler, on Sept. 6, 1957 at the Leonard Methodist Church and celebrated their 67th anniversary last week. Gary enjoyed his family, woodworking, hunting and collecting/restoring antique tractors and steam engines. He spent many years scouring the country with Dolores, making friends and buying tractors. Then he spent his retirement restoring those tractors with the help of all of the friends he had made in finding them. Gary is survived by his loving wife Dolores Sutherby of Leonard, Keith (Judy) Sutherby of Imlay City and Kevin (Mary) Sutherby of Philadelphia. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jason, Jacob (Beth), Claire, Charlie and John and five great-grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Donald Sutherby and sisters-in-law, Connie and Joyce, along with his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. with viewing from 10-11 a.m., all at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 2650 S. Van Dyke-Imlay City, MI 48444. Burial will follow at Lakeville Cemetery. Memorial Donations can be made in Gary’s name to the Leonard Community Church or to the Thumb Octagon Barn Agricultural Museum.
