Gazebo fire investigation continues

Fire investigators from Independence Township are conducting an ongoing arson investigation after a fire broke out in downtown Clarkston’s Depot Park Saturday, Sept. 22.
The blaze, which started on a wood pile stored in an out-of-the way-area, was discovered just after midnight, about 45 minutes after an officer checked the park.
‘At about 12:20 a.m. the duty captain requested my presence in Depot Park,? said Bob Pursley, who also works for Independence Township Fire Department, but also serves part time as Clarkston’s DPW Supervisor. ‘When I got there, the wood pile was completely ablaze.?
It was just windy enough, he said, for the gazebo roof to catch on fire when embers blew onto the structure from the burning wood pile.
Plans to replace the roof were underway, and officials are asking anyone with information to call the Clarkston Police at 248-625-0088.
