In three high-scoring games for the Lady Cat lacrosse team this week, the team took another win and its first two losses of the season. In all three games, offense remained aggressive and several defenders were difference-makers.
Most recently on April 15, the Lady Cats beat Rochester in a 7-4 game. The game marked their only win of the last week.
Going into the weekend on April 12, the ladies hosted Utica Eisenhower and left with a 11-7 loss. Utica went into the match undefeated and proved a tough opponent for Oxford.
Senior Josie Kane led the Lady Cats in scoring with four goals in the loss. On the defensive end, senior Keira Veltigian and junior Audrey Hermanson led Oxford by stopping several plays throughout the night.
The Wildcats started the week of play with a loss to the high-ranked Farmington Hills squad in a 10-6 game on April 9. Despite the final score, Head Coach Aliisa Mason left the game impressed that her ladies scored so high against a tough team.
The last time the two teams met, Farmington widely outscored Oxford. But, the ladies held the Falcons to 10 points and earned six of their own. Junior Carli Doyle led Oxford in scoring with three goals along with her strong defensive efforts. Other goal scorers for Oxford were junior Olivia Soule and seniors Megan Klinger and Veltigian, all with one goal apiece.
On the defensive end, the key athletes were Soule, freshman Megan Alban, junior Summer Bell, junior Shelby Mueller, sophomore Kylie Rancilio and senior Caitlin Hill. Together, the ladies put on a full-field press resulting in a number of turnovers. In the goal post, sophomore Grace Fritsche defended Oxford well against many “point-blank” shots.
The ladies now tout a 4-2 overall record. They’ll play again when they travel to Holly on April 18.
